The Philips Viva Collection HR1863/20 is a uni-dimensional juicer for extracting juice from fruits and vegetables. It is a simple centrifugal juicer that is easy to use and clean.
- Powerful 700W motor
- Ideal for extracting juice from fruits and vegetables
- Extra-large feeding tube
- Large juice jug capacity
- It does not occupy much space.
- Juice extraction is not 100% because the pulp contains some juice.
- Not ideal for cashew, almonds, and nuts
- Cannot prepare smoothies
- Cleaning the strainer and juicer is challenging and time-consuming.
- It has a single-speed setting.
The Philips Viva Collection HR 1863/20 is a decent juicer available at a reasonable price. It is a one-dimensional appliance capable of extracting fruit and vegetable juices.
The performance is good when you extract juice from hard fruits like apples. However, soft fruits like oranges and sweet lime give different results because the pulp residue retains some fluid.
Installing the machine is easy. But the cleaning activity is challenging. The company claims it offers a self-cleaning mechanism. However, it could be more helpful. You have to remove the pulp residue from the filter using a brush. The process consumes time and requires you to be careful because excessive brushing can damage the filter.
This juicer is not suitable for extracting nut milk or preparing smoothies. It is best suited for juicing fruits and vegetables. So if you require a uni-dimensional juicer, the Philips Viva Collection HR1863/20 is a suitable option. But we recommend going for the 700W motor because a similar model with a 400W motor is also available.

What’s in the box?
- Firm base with a potent 700W motor
- High-quality plastic containers
- Large feeding tube
- Stainless steel filter
- Plastic tap
- Juice collection jar
The Philips Viva Collection HR 1863/20 juicer has an attractive design that is easy to assemble. Disassembling the appliance is also easy. The tap arrangement is excellent because you can turn the spout upward to prevent juice dripping on the kitchen table.
The appliance has a sizeable 1.2L pulp collection jar. The juice collection jar has a capacity of 800ml. The large feeder tube is a good feature. Though the manual allows feeding whole fruits into the machine, I suggest cutting the fruits into small pieces. It reduces the load on the device and ensures better efficiency.
The sturdy aluminum body has suction feet to hold the appliance firmly on the kitchen counter. The stainless steel strainer is of high quality. It ensures that pulp and seeds do not mix with the juice.
Philips Viva Collection Juicer Performance
The juicing performance is good, especially with hard fruits like apples, papayas, and pineapples. However, soft fruits like oranges, sweet lime, and mangoes leave more residue, with the pulp containing some liquid. So, this machine does not ensure 100% juicing with soft fruits.
The Philips HR 1863/20 is a pure centrifugal juicer that cannot extract nut milk or prepare smoothies. The centrifugal juicing process leaves much foam on the liquid compared to cold press juicers. However, the juicing speed is excellent.
You can blend milkshakes and lassis in this juicer. But I do not recommend it for churning lassis because the holes in the strainer are minute. So you end up with more residue.
Though the company claims it is excellent for preparing juice from green leafy vegetables, the performance is satisfactory. It can be better. However, you can extract juice from coriander and wheat grass comfortably, whereas spinach and other greens can be challenging. But it is excellent for preparing carrot and beetroot juices.
Philips claims that the Viva Collection HR 1863/20 is the first centrifugal juicer with a self-cleaning mechanism. However, these are tall claims because you have to add water to the juicer to allow it to rinse the fibers and make it easy to clean the sieve.
However, the parts are removable and can be washed in the kitchen sink. You can use a soft toothbrush and rub it gently over the filter to remove the pulp residue sticking to it. Then, you can proceed with rinsing the filter under the kitchen tap.
Philips provides a two-year warranty on the product. However, getting the machine repaired at authorized service centers would be best. The contract becomes void if you get it serviced by independent technicians.
Philips Viva Collection HR 1863/20 Competitors
- Philips Viva Collection HR1832/00 is similar in design to the HR1863/20. However, the HR1832/00 has a 400W motor and 1.5L capacity. Therefore, the HR1863/20 could be better.
- Lazer Passion 3-jars 500W Juicer Mixer Grinder is a multipurpose appliance. Though it can perform as a mixer and grinder, it can also work as a juicer. However, the 500W motor is less efficient than the Philips Viva HR1863/20.
- Philips Viva Collection HR1855/00 has a 700W motor to perform equally well as the HR1863/20. But it has a smaller pulp container measuring 800ml.
The Philips Viva Collection HR 1863/20 is a good investment because it delivers excellent juicing performance and is reasonably priced. In comparison, cold press juicers are expensive. But they provide better performance.
Moreover, the Philips model is suitable for daily usage because it is a one-dimensional product. Therefore, you cannot use it for grinding and other activities like the Sujata Power Plus juicer. In short, it is worth every rupee you spend on the Philips Viva Collection HR 1863/20.
