How Many Watts does a Mixer Grinder need?

When you purchase any electrical equipment, you look for the “Wattage.” Watt signifies power consumption or power deliverance. In simple terms, Watt is a unit of power/energy. It represents the rate of transfer of energy.

Watt also provides you with information about how powerful the motor is. Therefore, the higher the wattage, the more powerful the motor is. However, one should never forget that being more powerful does not always translate into being more efficient.

The Technical Definition

Watt is the SI (International System of Units) standard unit of power. It denotes the flow of current through an electrical device. Watt is equivalent to one Joule per second. You can also define ‘Watt’ as the rate at which a current of One Ampere flows across a potential difference of one volt.

In the US, energy consumption is measured in terms of KiloWatt-hours. It denotes the use of 1000 watts of power in one hour. For example, a 100-watt electric bulb will consume 0.1Kw per hour. In India, we equate Kilowatt per hour as units of electricity consumed. Thus, a 500W mixer grinder consumes 0.5 kWh or 0.5 units of current in one hour.

How many watts should be ideal for a mixer grinder?

A lot depends on the size of your family and your usage patterns. If your family comprises two to three people, your requirements are the minimum. Hence, a mixer grinder with a motor up to 500W should be sufficient to cater to almost your cooking assistance jobs, like grinding masala powder, preparing chutneys, whipping up cream, wet grinding, etc. It can also prepare idli batter because your requirements are small.

For a family comprising three to five members, the requirements are more. Hence, the 500W motor should not be sufficient. Such families need a mixer grinder with a motor having a capacity of more than 500W and up to 750W.

A mixer grinder with a 750W is perfect for an Indian household. It can cater to all your kitchen requirements efficiently. You can also use the 750W mixer grinder for preparing idli batter, depending on your requirements.

If your requirements are more or your family comprises more than five persons, it is better to opt for a mixer grinder with a motor having a capacity of more than 750W, say up to 900W or 1000W. These machines are excellent for heavy-duty grinding like pulverizing pulses, spices, and preparing dry masala powder. It is also excellent for grinding idli batter.

The Importance of Watts

The more watts, the more valuable the mixer grinder is for catering to heavy-duty jobs. Machines with higher wattages come with larger jars and can work for up to 30 minutes continuously. In addition, these appliances can display better revolution speeds in the range of 22000rpm and more.

However, the power consumption by these 1000W motors is more compared to the smaller motors, like 750W and 500W.
