We have extensively reviewed water purifiers from all the top brands by actually using them at our home and office.
The choice of a water purifier for borewell water depends on the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in the water. TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids, which, in simple terms, means the total number of salts, minerals, and metals present in the water.

Water contains essential minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium that are required for our bodies. However, an excess of these minerals can be detrimental.
In some areas, the water may be salty, while in others, groundwater might contain harmful metals like arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.
RO water purifiers are capable of removing salts and metals from the water. Therefore, you should select a water purifier based on the TDS levels in your water sources.
In general, groundwater TDS levels are on the higher side.
Checking the TDS levels in your water source is straightforward. All you need is a TDS meter, which you can purchase at a local medical shop or on Amazon. The cost of a TDS meter is just Rs 150. You can simply turn on the TDS meter and place it in the water to determine the TDS levels.

Important: If the TDS levels are above 300 ppm, you should choose an RO water purifier. If the TDS levels are below 300 ppm, there is no need for an RO water purifier; a UV UF water purifier will be sufficient.
Important: In some rare cases, the TDS levels in your water may be low, but the water might contain harmful metals like arsenic. Under such conditions, it is better to opt for an RO water purifier.
Important: If your groundwater contains harmful metals like arsenic and lead, choose a 100% RO water purifier. Do not opt for an RO system that comes with TDS controllers.
Important: Use a pre-filter for your RO water purifier. The cost of the pre-filter is Rs 700, but it improves the lifespan of the RO filter. Some brands provide the pre-filter free of cost.
We have reviewed more than 20 water purifiers from top brands like Kent, Pureit, Aquaguard, Livpure, AO Smith, Vguard, and more.
Among all the RO water purifiers we have reviewed, here are the top models that are suitable for borewell water.
Best Water Purifiers for Borewell Water (Groundwater)
1. HUL Pureit ECO Water Saver

This RO is the best water-saving model in India suitable for a Large family. If budget is not your criteria, you can go with this model
This water purifier offers 100% RO water purification and comes with a Mineralizer. This means the input water passes through the RO chamber, removing all salts and minerals, and resulting in zero TDS levels. Since zero TDS water is mineral-deficient and does not taste good, minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium are added to the purified water with the help of the Mineralizer.
The output water is both tasty and healthy. The HUL Pureit Eco water saver comes with a 10L storage tank and is suitable for medium and large-size families.

Among all the water purifiers we have reviewed, this HUL model saves the most water. The amount of water wasted depends on the TDS levels in your groundwater. This water purifier can work with all water sources having TDS levels up to 2000 ppm.
Other important features like tank level indicators and filter replacement indicators are helpful. The annual maintenance cost for this water purifier is around 5000 rupees, but it may vary depending on the local dealer.

2. Kent Supreme Alkaline Water Purifier

Good RO Water purifier and gives water a taste that is similar to Mineral water because of the Alkaline booster.
Kent is one of the popular RO water purifier brands in India. This Kent Supreme Alkaline model is similar to the Pureit Model mentioned above. However, this model is not 100% RO as it comes with a TDS controller mechanism.
All Kent RO water purifier models have a TDS controller. This means that to maintain the natural minerals in the water, the TDS controller allows some input water to bypass the RO chamber and pass directly to the UV UF chambers. This ensures that a small portion of the input water is not RO treated, allowing some natural minerals to remain in the water.
This mechanism is safe unless the groundwater contains toxic metals like lead and arsenic.
The good thing about this Kent water purifier is that it comes with an alkaline booster that adds minerals like magnesium, calcium, and other required minerals to give the water a good taste and maintain the pH value in the range of 8 to 9.

Among all the Kent water purifiers we have reviewed, we liked the Kent Supreme Alkaline the most. The design is transparent, and the 8-liter storage capacity is suitable for a medium-sized family. AMC costs around 5000 rupees.
The only thing we don’t like about Kent is their zero water wastage claim, which is purely a marketing gimmick.
You can also consider the Kent Grand Plus, which is similar to the Kent Supreme.

3. Livpure Glo Pro++

This Livpure RO gives a better taste to water as it comes with a Mineralizer instead of a TDS Controller
Despite its odd and confusing naming (Pro++), the purification process of this Livpure RO water purifier is straightforward and reliable.
During our extensive usage of this water purifier, we were highly impressed with its performance, and the water taste is also good and similar to mineral water.
Unlike the Kent and Aquaguard models, this Livpure water purifier offers 100% RO purification since it does not have a TDS controller. The power on and tank full indicators are useful.

This Livpure water purifier comes with a 7L storage tank and is suitable for small and medium-sized families. Overall, the Livpure Glo Pro++ is one of the best RO water purifiers in India priced under 9000 rupees, and is suitable for borewell water.

4. Pureit Vital Max

Good and Compact RO that comes with a Modern Design and is suitable of all kinds of water sources.
This Vital Series from Pureit is almost similar to the Pureit Eco water-saver model that we mentioned earlier. However, this model is more compact and attractive than the Eco water saver.
The water wastage in this model is lower compared to the Kent Grand Plus and Aquaguard RO models. The Pureit Vital Max can work with all types of water having TDS levels up to 2000 ppm.
The 7L storage capacity is suitable for a medium-sized family.

This is a 100% RO water purifier that comes with a Mineral Booster instead of a TDS controller. AMC cost is around 4500 to 5000 rupees.
The RO membrane in this model can work with up to 6000 liters of water, but that depends on the TDS levels in your groundwater. Overall, Pureit Vital is one of the best RO water purifiers in India suitable for groundwater.

5. Sure from Aquaguard Delight NXT

This RO is the best budget model but it wastes water and comes with a TDS Controller
Aquaguard Sure is one of the best budget RO water purifiers in India. This model is priced lower than 9000 rupees and can work with water having TDS levels up to 2000 ppm.
Just like the Kent water purifier that we mentioned above, this model also comes with a TDS controller to maintain the required minerals and taste of the water.

The best thing about this model is that it comes with an MTDS controller, which means we can set the TDS levels in the output water according to our preference. Please note that only a water purifier technician or plumber will be able to adjust the TDS because this is done inside the machine.
Since this is not a 100% RO water purifier due to the TDS controller mechanism, this model is not recommended if your groundwater contains toxic metals. Also, the water wastage is on the higher side.
The maintenance cost of this Aquaguard model is around 4500 rupees.

6. V-Guard Zenora

Quality RO Water Purifier with No fancy features. Suitable for High TDS Water.
V-Guard is also a reputable RO water purifier brand. We have used this model for more than a year and are satisfied with its performance.
This V-Guard Zenora RO water purifier is suitable for water with TDS levels up to 2000 ppm and comes with a 7-liter storage capacity that is suitable for small and medium-sized families.
This V-Guard model also offers 100% RO purification and is perfectly suitable for borewell water. The good thing about this model is that it comes with a mineral enhancer that adds minerals to the RO-purified water before sending it to the storage tank.

The taste of the water is good, the V-Guard service is reliable, and AMC costs around 4000 rupees. However, water wastage is high when compared to Pureit models.
