The quality of air is diminishing day by day, and the aftermath of Diwali is appalling. The infrastructure development has brought in plenty of construction, which involved cutting down of trees.

The number of cars on the road has increased in the last couple of decades and the pollution level has risen.

If you are prone to allergies by pollen, dust, dust mites, mold, tobacco smoke, pet dander. Then you need an air purifier. A little investment would save you from hospital bills and unnecessary leaves from work. Also, the quality of life would certainly improve.

Let us begin with five myths about Air Purifiers:

Myth 1: Air purifier can replace the Vacuum cleaner.

Air Purifier can control the allergens spread through the air around the room. It cannot remove the heave pollens, which fall on the floor. Hence, your purifier cannot replace the vacuum cleaner. It will never clean any dust-ridden furniture. The carpets should be cleaned and vacuumed. In crux, good hygiene is necessary.

Myth 2: Air Purifier is a room freshener.

Air purifiers will eliminate any odor with huge carbon in it. It doesn’t remove the odor of stale food or smell of dirty clothes. It’s not a room freshener. Hence, it is your duty to discard all the smelly things; and the purifier will take care of the allergens.

Myth 3: Air purifier is capable of destroying viruses.

Not every Purifier is capable of destroying the viruses. There are certain purifiers, which has an inbuilt technology to deal with viruses or use technology, which uses heat to eliminate pathogens. It is always better to make informed decisions.

HEPA Filter

The HEPA filter (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) is more reliable and highly recommended. The standards are better and most important HEPA is tested and certified. HEPA can remove 99.97 % of particles that include pollen, pet dander, and tobacco smoke.

There is also Ozone generators, which can fill your house with huge amount of Ozone gas. Reviews suggest that it should be avoided because it can iodize other chemicals. Ozone in small quantity is fine, but in huge quantity can cause severe chest problems, coughing, and shortness of breath.

Myth 4: Air-conditioner can replace Air purifiers.

Air-conditioning and air purification are two different things. An AC will eliminate warm air and with compressor, evaporator coil and condenser coil; will facilitate cooling. On the other hand, air purifiers remove allergens and pollen.

The new LG model which can filter PM 2.5 pollutants is minuscule when compared to air purifiers. We are living in a concrete jungle and the pollution level has skyrocketed, especially in metro cities like Delhi where the pollution level is alarming. In such dire situation, an air purifier is mandatory.

Also, air-conditioner does not have an inbuilt HEPA filter. At this point, it’s impossible to reshape AC filtration system and modify with HEPA filter. As it is well known that HEPA filter can remove impurities on a microscopic level.

In case if HEPA filter is used in AC’s – It will lead to plenty of complications. It will lead to reduced air flow, increase in maintenance cost, early damage, and it can overburden which might result in overheating. Hence, it’s better to use air purifier and let AC do the cooling.

Myth 5: Air purifier should come with an indicator.

An indicator is merely a showpiece. The real benchmark of an air purifier is the difference it makes in your life.

Indicators and sensors don’t matter if there is a reduction in chest congestion or any sinusitis problem, and the visit to doctor or intake of medication has considerably reduced, Then your machine is doing a fabulous job.

Most of the customers are of the opinion that the indicator will reflect the actual quality of air inside the room. The glaring reality is that a sensor might not show the right percentage of air quality. Hence, it might be misleading at times.
